The Kitchen Table Tour Album Launch
This past February 2026, Dave Steel, Frank Jones, Bill Jackson and friends gathered in Venus Bay on the South Gippsland coast to prepare for a return show at The Tarwin Lower Mechanics Hall where just twelve months earlier they had launched their idea - ‘The Kitchen Table Tour’ - a ‘fly on the wall’ view of three songwriters doing what they do at home - sitting around a kitchen table swapping songs, playing each other’s and ones they all know.
They are old friends - it is relaxed, gentle and fun. They join in on each song - that was the dream. And so it came to be. It seemed only right to return to that old mechanics hall and record the show for posterity. Sound Engineer Chris Gale set it up in the main room on the Friday and recorded a set of songs around the table. Then on Saturday evening he recorded The Kitchen Table Tour in concert to a full hall of brilliant and supportive locals.
The resulting thirteen track album will be available at a series of launches throughout 2026 and beyond. Since that first show in Tarwin Lower the tour has been to many parts of Australia. It is a unique experience - people love the stories and choice of songs from the catalogues of three award winning songwriters, as well as the dive into the lesser-known Australian folk song canon. This is the first launch and of course it’s being held at the iconic Lomond Hotel in Brunswick - the songwriters home.
