Frank Jones & Christy Wositzky-Jones

Singer and songwriter from the legendary Whirling Furphies, Frank Jones penned Naarm's iconic anthem, 'My Brown Yarra', one of the great Australian songs, and his lifetime of cross-genre songwriting includes six outstanding albums of his own and a multitude of songs written for and co-written with other artists.

Frank is currently performing and touring with his songwriting mates, Dave Steel and Bill Jackson in The Kitchen Table Tour. He also created and curated the highly popular Writers’ Block series of concerts at the Lomond.

"Frank Jones sings songs about people that walk down the same streets I do, cross the same rivers, drink the same brand of beer. Frank writes locally, which makes him a truly international writer. I know the people in his songs. I know their heartache and heartease" (Paul Kelly)

Christy Wositzky-Jones is a producer and electronic artist with a background in jazz, piano and improvisation. You’ll find him in many great Naarm bands including Empress, Evening News and Hills Hoist and also doing his own DJ thing as Skinny Wizard. Tonight he’ll be accompanying his dad.

Suzanne Petersen & Big John

Suzanne first saw Big John (Zhang Ling) fronting his band at the Geelong Blues Club. With a voice like an angel and bass playing that reminded her of Sting—groovy, melodic, and locked in—he launched into Georgia and blew the room away. Suzanne jumped up with her flute on Summertime, took a solo, and thought, Well, I just had to! Where did this guy come from? The musical connection was instant.

Together, Suzanne and Big John deliver original songs with feel and finesse. Suzanne toured with Dutch Tilders’ RnB6, wrote for Tim Gaze’s Band on the Run Surf Movie, and earned Unisong awards for “Here Is My Song” and “Hold On.” Her last three albums all hit the charts, with I Foresaw This Trouble climbing to No. 5 on the Australian Radio Blues & Roots Chart.

Expect great songs, deep grooves, and a duo that knows how to move a room.

ZHANG LING, also known as Big John, is a highly influential figure in the Chinese blues music scene, renowned for fusing traditional blues with distinct Chinese cultural influences. His innovative approach creates a refreshing and unique sound that resonates widely. Notably skilled in bass guitar playing, his compositions gain depth and richness. With soulful vocals, he captures the essence of blues, infusing a personal touch into each piece. Beyond musical prowess, Big John serves as a cultural bridge, connecting blues traditions with Chinese musical heritage. His work has garnered global recognition, establishing him as a respected figure in the world of music.

With three well-received albums— "Song for a Woman," "Drinking Blues," and "I AM Big John"— he continues to champion the legacy of the blues. His album "Drinking Blues," recorded in New York in 2016 with jazz masters like Lenny White, John Tropea, and Pete Levin, gained prominence after his viral appearance on the Chinese National TV show "Sing My Song."

Big John, now based in Melbourne, Australia, is continuing to build on his legacy as an ambassador of the blues. Through The Big John Blues Experience, he hopes to bring his unique blend of blues, rock, soul and traditional roots to a new audience.
